KL can get quite hot at times so my friends and I are always looking for a place to escape the heat. We found The Cascades MY. The place was fairly new and not many knew about it.
Opened on the 30th of September 2022, The Cascades MY is a private picnic and camping spot in Ulu Bendul, perfect for families, couples, and campers. It’s also ideal for solo travellers looking to unwind alone in a secluded area. The Cascades MY’s main highlight is its beautiful cascades.
While Malaysia offers many picnic and camping places to the public, most are not private. However, The Cascades MY is private. Keep reading to learn more about The Cascades MY.
A Secluded Picnic and Camping Spot
As discussed earlier, The Cascades MY is private property. What makes it stand out is the privacy it offers. It’s especially great for those looking to rent a venue for private events, from birthdays to festive celebrations. Recently, my friends had their Gawai celebration at The Cascades MY.
You Can Rent The Cascades MY for a Day or More
During my visit, my friends and I rented the property for a day. We arrived around noon and left after 5 pm.

Different charges apply depending on the length of stay. You can rent the property at a premium price of no less than RM150 (up to 5 people) for a day trip. In return, you can enjoy the whole place to yourself. If you plan to spend the night, it’ll cost you RM300. You can check the rates below:

The property also offers items for rent and other services, as shown in the image below:

It might seem expensive, but think about it – you’ll have the entire place to yourself. A friend of mine in Qatar said that a place like this would’ve cost a few thousand ringgit a night.
The Cascades MY Can Accommodate Up to 30 People.
Yep, that’s right. There’s plenty of space for everyone here. But one important thing to note: there’s only one bathroom and one toilet. The toilet and bathroom might get occupied all the time suppose 30 people show up at The Cascades MY at a time. It could get dirty easily, too.

On the bright side, the staff will be there to check on the property and presumably ensure the facilities are always in good and clean condition. Based on my last visit, the facilities were good. Everything worked perfectly well. Good news: The management will be adding more toilets (and a surau) by this coming August.
Cook if You Like
There’s a kitchen at The Cascades MY. It has almost everything you’ll need, from a stove to plates and cutleries.

There’s also a water dispenser.

You’ll also find a few charging ports, making it easy for you to plug in other electrical appliances you might want to bring from home.

The dining area is also in the kitchen. But feel free to eat wherever you like. Just keep in mind to keep the place tidy and clean before you leave.

And most importantly, do not litter, especially at the cascades.
Don’t Leave Without Feeling the Cascades
This attraction’s main highlight is its beautiful cascades. The water is cold. For the most part, the water is not deep (for adults and older kids), but you should always be careful. If you’re 5 ft tall, the water should be about until your waist.

There’s a sign at the cascades that says ‘Swim at your own risk.’

Be careful when walking on rocks. The rocks can get slippery. If you worry about slipping, consider wearing wet shoes.

Note: There were no leeches (also known as ‘lintah’ in Malay) in the water as far as I remember. My friends and I didn’t see any. However, a friend mentioned her friend’s son who got bitten by a leech while he was in the water. Could it be possible that the child was bitten before he even got into the water? Was it a lintah or pacat? Who knows.
There Are Various Animals You Might Encounter at the Property
You can find many animals at The Cascades MY. We saw a small lizard (it looked like a salamander), a chameleon (the locals call it ‘sesumpah’), creepy crawlies, butterflies, and more.

We saw a big toad while swimming in the water. The toad sat still. It seemed like it was staring at us. We could also hear the sounds of crickets and birds chirping.

WARNING: There are leeches (pacat) at the property. They’re in grassy areas. My friend and I had one on our legs. Yikes!
Get Your Bug Spray Ready
There are mosquitoes in the area, so you should get your bug spray ready if you don’t want to get eaten alive.

Don’t have a bug spray? You could try using natural bug repellents like lemongrass or cinnamon instead. Of course, make sure you’re not allergic to these ingredients. It would also help to avoid darker clothes like black and navy blue, even red-orange hues.
The Campsite Is on a Wooden Deck
Unlike most campsites, you’ll set up your tent on a wooden deck. The campsite is closer to the toilet and bathroom than the kitchen. There are stairs to get down to the campsite. I haven’t spent a night at The Cascades MY yet, but my friend told me that she had a good night’s sleep at the campsite.
The Staff Are Very Friendly and Helpful
There were two staff looking after the property during our visit.

They were very friendly, happy-go-lucky, and helpful. It was easy to talk to them and ask questions regarding the property.
What Can You Do at The Cascades MY?
You can enjoy a picnic or go camping at The Cascades MY. Since it’s private property, you’ll have the whole place to yourself. Some people rent the property to host private events, including birthday and festive celebrations. Swim at the waterfall, play board games, party, or whatever.
There are certain things you can’t do, though, which I’ll share later in the article.
Can You Have a BBQ at The Cascades MY?
You can have a BBQ at The Cascades MY. Bring your own bbq set and you’re good to go. While there are plates, cups, pots, pans, and cutleries provided in the kitchen, you might want to bring your own if you’re coming in a big group, just in case the property doesn’t have enough of those things.
Are There Certain Things You’re Not Allowed To Do There?
You’re not allowed to litter, display immoral behaviours, take drugs, bring any kind of animal without getting prior permission from the management beforehand, steal plants or anything from the property, hunt (including fishing), or cut down trees. Smoking in the tent is also not allowed.

In addition, the possession of any firearm within the premise is prohibited. Before coming to the property, you’re required to pay all the necessary fees for your stay, whether for a day trip or overnight.
Can You Bring Takeouts?
You can certainly bring takeouts, especially if you don’t want to cook at The Cascades MY. There are restaurants nearby where you can buy food. Alternatively, you can pre-order food from the property management.

If you’ll be spending the night, be sure to bring enough food and drinks for your needs.

My friends and I didn’t cook any meals during our day trip. We brought food from home and bought some from nearby shops. There are a few restaurants nearby selling delicious Malay dishes.

Would I Return to The Cascades MY?
I would absolutely return to The Cascades MY. Overall, my friends and I enjoyed our day trip. The place is beautiful and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Thank you to The Cascades MY for having us.

If you’re interested to visit The Cascades MY, make sure to book the place early as it’s always booked up, especially at the weekend or during public holidays.
You might want to check the weather forecast before making a booking. Some people mentioned that visiting the property on a rainy day is a little inconvenient.

While it would be helpful to check the weather forecast, sometimes it’s hard to do so when making a booking many weeks prior. Furthermore, weather forecasts aren’t 100% accurate. My friends and I thought the weather wouldn’t be good during our visit, but it turned out otherwise.
As I’ve already mentioned, the place gets easily booked up. You’re lucky if you could book it at the very last minute.
Getting There
The best way to get to The Cascades MY is by driving, especially if you’re not from around the area. If you live nearby, you can always take a taxi or Grab.
However, bear in mind that the Internet coverage isn’t the best. I had U Mobile and there was barely Internet access at the property. A friend of mine recommends using Digi at the property. Digi Internet helped her and her friends enjoy their karaoke session until the early morning.
Final Thoughts
The Cascades MY is a private property in Ulu Bendul. It’s a new attraction, but it’s becoming increasingly popular now. Some people might find the rates expensive, but I think the rates are reasonable when shared with friends. The more people share the cost, the more affordable. Since the property is always booked up, early booking is usually necessary to secure a spot.
If there’s one thing The Cascades MY could improve, I’d say it would be nice if the property built more toilets and bathrooms in the nearest future. Fortunately, the project is on the way.
